Walk-in Showers w/ Curbed Entry
Here are some of the showers I've done over the past decade and more. Most of them are built with an alternative "traditional" shower receptor (mudpan). This is the pan that I still prefer to install after all these years and even with "new" options of pan installations. The optional pans, being Wedi or Hydroblock foam pans. Allthough I have installed quite a few of each of the pans offered by these brands, and they are a high quality and completely waterproof option when properly installed, I just like the "old school" way, as it's tried and true and requires a higher skill level and could be concidered an art form to install correctly.
Curbed with framed bench
This curbed shower features a framed-in bench with a slab top and 12"x24" horizontal set porcelain wall tile on a 1/3 offset. The pan got a marble hex mosaic tile that accents the backwall of the niche as well. Cuts were made off the bench slab and were installed on the curb top, the bottom of the niche, and as an upper shelf.
Vertically Stacked
This shower was done keeping modern and sleek in mind. The 12"x24" porcelain tile got a verticle stack on a 1/3 offset pattern. After I established the layout, I cut out, framed and bonded waterproofing for the install of the custom niche which is exactly where the
wall tile would be if there was no inset.
The pan recieved black penny round mosaics and the curb was wrapped in the same tile as the walls.
Beveled Subway
This curbed shower was done with a beveled edge rittenhouse "subway" tile on a 50/50 brick pattern. A centered inset niche was installed with the backwall being tiled the same as the pan of a black river rock. All the exposed tile edges got a Schluter bright white rondec edge detail with inside and outside rondec corners framing in the niche and the curb.
Matching Master
Here is the "matching" shower area to the photo to the left. This is the master shower and as the hallway bathroom shower, it got the black river rock set on the pan and on the backwall of the niche, which is centered on the right wall. This shower got a large format "subway" tile on a 50/50 brick pattern stack, a soldier course was set at the top row and the ceiling got a herringbone pattern. The framed in bench extends out of the shower area to become the deck for a large drop in soaking tub. The shower wall tile also extends out and around the corner to become the tub backsplash. As with the hallway bathroom shower, all the exposed tile edges recieved Schluter bright white rondec edge detail with inside and outside rondec corners
Curbed Corner Shower
This shower got built as a corner shower which later got full frameless glass and a pivot door installed. Set on a large format "wave" tile on the walls with 3 inset niches'. The pan got a linear drain installed with a marble hex mosaic tile and the curb was wrapped with the same tile as the floor which recieved a herringbone pattern.
Horizontal Niche
This shower was installed in new construction which had the horizontal niche framed in while the house was being constructed, which made my job easier but left me with fewer options on the tile layout. The walls got a large format porcelain tile and the pan, (with an offset square drain) curbtop and niche backwall all got a complimentry square mosaic tile.
